What does a learning specialist do?

A learning specialist is educated in how people learn.  They are not specialists in individual subjects such as Advanced Calculus or English Literature.  Instead, they specialize in how people learn language, reading, writing, math, and social skills.

What does a speech-language pathologist do?

A speech-language pathologist’s expertise and practice can range from articulation to feeding/swallowing to language development to accent reduction.  They can also work with voice disorders, alternative and augmentative communication, oral-motor difficulties, and social pragmatics. 

My child was evaluated and diagnosed with a speech/language/learning disability.  What should I do next?

You must be dealing with many emotions and questions right now.  I want to help.  Even if we don’t end up working together, I would like to speak with you.

Research has shown the benefits of early intervention.  Acting now could help your child a great deal. 

I recommend that you choose a therapist who is compatible with you and your family’s personalities, works with your family’s lifestyle, and is creative in how he/she teaches your child. 

Does my health insurance cover services?

Each insurance policy is different.  Call your insurance company to be sure that they cover services. 

Do you evaluate for AACs?

I do!  Our Alternative and Augmentative Communication evaluations are very hands-on and comprehensive.  Our goal is to determine the best mode of communication for your child and your family’s lifestyle. 

How will I know if you and my child are a good fit? 

It’s so important for children to be self-motivated to learn.  A good relationship with a therapist/teacher can really help this motivation. 

I offer a free 30-minute consultation where we meet in person and talk about concerns and questions that you might have.  It’s also a great time to get a sense of whether or not we “click”.  There is absolutely no obligation to continue with services.  If you decide that I am the right therapist for your child, I will work with you to provide a customized and comprehensive program to help your child learn in a stress-free nurturing environment.
